Our team
Karl Michelin‑Beard is the founder and director of Ember Finance Group. He established the firm to deliver client‑focused mortgage and finance services where borrowers’ best interests always come first.
As a senior broker, Karl leads by example, using his extensive industry experience to mentor his team and ensure every client receives expert guidance. He prides himself on building long‑term relationships and helping clients achieve their financial goals through thoughtful loan structuring.
Outside of work, Karl is a keen cyclist and enjoys spending time travelling Australia and NZ racing his bike!
Lisa Gallagher has built a reputation as a trusted senior finance broker through years of experience in banking and mortgage broking. She combines a calm, methodical approach with genuine empathy to understand her clients’ needs and goals.
Lisa specialises in home-loan strategies for first‑home buyers and refinancers, guiding them through the loan process and explaining options and features in clear, everyday language. Her commitment to acting in each client’s best interests has earned her a loyal following.
Outside of work, Lisa enjoys travelling and spending time with family.
With a strong analytical mindset and a background in financial services, Kyle Hughes thrives on finding tailored lending solutions. He specialises in borrowing scenarios and investment-property finance, ensuring borrowers understand what they can afford and how various loan features affect them.
Kyle’s clients appreciate his attention to detail, transparency and ability to translate technical information into practical guidance.
When he’s not helping people secure finance, Kyle stays up to date on market trends, enjoys jiu-jitsu, craft beer and is an avid reader of economic history.
Joe brings a passion for property and small‑business finance to his role at Ember Finance Group. Drawing on experience across both residential and commercial lending, he excels at working with entrepreneurs and first‑time buyers alike.
Before becoming a broker, Joseph owned several hospitality venues in Canberra. Running these restaurants and cafés sharpened his financial management, customer‑service and leadership skills — traits that now inform his ability to understand clients’ goals and find loan options that fit. He takes the time to map out borrowers’ needs and options, and his approachable style makes navigating the loan process straightforward.
Away from the office, Joe is an avid golfer and member of Royal Canberra; you can catch him out on the course rain, hail or shine!
